Civic workshop at the Auswärtiges Amt Berlin
Citizen Participation
On December 6, 2019, the Auswärtiges Amt welcomed 100 citizens from across Germany to gather their opinions and ideas on foreign policy.
The Civic Workshop made foreign policy tangible. How can we motivate more countries to meet climate targets? How can we ensure women’s participation in peace processes? How do we control the proliferation of autonomous weapon systems, so-called killer robots? How can we create a secure international cyberspace without restricting users’ freedoms? These and other questions engaged participants at the 4th Civic Workshop of the Auswärtiges Amt in December 2019.
In 10 small groups, participants were tasked with developing five-point plans to find concrete solutions to the major global challenges of our time. Each group was supported by a diplomat who was directly responsible for the topic under discussion.
The result: a debate without “self-censorship,” diverse opinions, respectful exchange, and numerous concrete, actionable ideas that were directly incorporated into the work of the Auswärtiges Amt. In addition: lots of fun and new friendships.
For the first time, Nordmann Event Consulting was responsible for organizing, planning, and executing the event.
